Robotic Surgery
Robotic surgery is emerging as the next major breakthrough in minimally invasive colorectal surgery. While robotic surgery for conditions like prostate cancer has become widely available over the last decade, it has been only more recently that colorectal surgeons have become interested in this technology. The latest da VInci Xi robotic systems have been specifically modified to meet the needs of colorectal surgeons working to treat rectal cancer. Robotic surgery also has an important application in the management of rectal prolapse.

Robotic systems allow the surgeon to work with increased precision and accuracy in confined spaces like the deep pelvis. There is a growing body of evidence to support the advantages of robotic surgery over open and conventional laparoscopic surgery.
